Galloping Horses, South Common

There were quite a few people on South Common yesterday afternoon waiting to see the #Avro3Sisters flypast. People were standing in small groups all over. The horses decided that this was the best time for a mad gallop from one end of the common to the other and back!

Today's Lancaster and Vulcan Flypast

Two Avro Lancasters and an Avro Vulcan flew over Lincoln to mark the turf cutting ceremony for the new memorial to Bomber Command situated just above South Common.

The three aircraft have been dubbed the Avro Sisters, check out social media updates with the hashtag #Avro3Sisters.

These three aircraft are the only remaining airworthy examples. The Vulcan and one of the Lancasters are based in the UK and the other Lancaster is visiting from Canada for the summer. Look out for these aircaft at events and airshows around the country.

Fool's Autumn

The trees are probably suffering from the hot and dry we had earlier in the summer. Today's maximum is only 17C so it feels a bit autumnal.

Woodhall Spa

This track forms part of the Viking Way, which runs from the Humber Bridge to Oakham in Rutland. For a short circular stroll continue along here for a bit, turn right onto another track and then wander back along The Broadway taking in the attractive spa town buildings. It's not too far to the high st area with its cafes, delis and restaurants (plus a few shops).

The View From Risby, Lincolnshire Wolds

Starting at bottom left is the fence that runs alongside Risby Road. The road itself can be seen above the fence and towards the right. Catskin Lane is behind the high hedge (running from top left). Also at top left is a series of telegraph poles carrying cables across fields and over Catskin Lane (plus hedge).

The picture was created by processing a photo with a series of G'MIC filters in GIMP (free open source software).
