Not far to go to the western coastal lochs, Eilean Donan Castle and The Isle of Skye.
Looking back towards Loch Alsh while travelling north to Inverness (and then Aviemore) via the alternative route.
Approx halfway between Loch Alsh and Inverness.

Loch an Eilein
A tranquil corner of Loch an Eilein (this is the loch with the ruined castle on an island - see earlier postings).
Heather occurs in forest undergrowth as well as open areas.
The path around Loch an Eilein is wide and well maintained. If the weather's good, this is a popular loch for a casual weekend walk.

Aviemore
Taken from the hinterlands of the western side of the high st, Aviemore. The mountains in the distance are the Cairngorms.
The road to the left is Aviemore's high st. Straight ahead goes to the Rothiemurchus Estate (Loch an Eilein). And the road to the right goes south eventually leading to Perth and Edinburgh.
Southern end of Aviemore.

Isle of Skye
From a view point just north of Broadford, Isle of Skye. The landmass at the rear is Applecross Peninsula on the mainland. The islands include Longay, Pabay and Scalpay (these are not pig latin names :-)
A weather front arrives at Harrapool, Isle of Skye.
The view from Harrapool, Isle of Skye. This picture overlaps a little with the previous picture.
