High Bridge

High Bridge
High Bridge, a photo by lincoln_eye on Flickr.

The River Witham passes under the High St pedestrian precinct via the historic High Bridge, Lincoln city centre.

It's the oldest bridge in the UK that still has buildings on it, dating from 1160AD. The current row of shops, which exactly sits on the bridge, dates from 1550.

  2. Thanks for your compliments. I'll be looking out for more juxtapositions of old and new as Lincoln has buildings dating from various periods across the last two millenia. New buildings are still springing up.
