Detail from the William Wilberforce slavery abolition monument in front of Hull College, East Yorkshire. This is my contribution to the City Daily Photo Blog monthly theme - "Numbers". More theme day photos can be seen here.
Wonder how many other theme day photos will feature Roman numerals?! Great post!
Welcome to Hull, Lincoln Eye. Do you come here often?
Seems to average at about once a year - I posted other pics in March, April this year and July, August last year.
Great choice for the numbers theme. My translation of Roman Numerals is not so good. Can anyone tell us what year this is?
I think 1834.
Correct. FYI you can put these things into a Google Search and it'll give you a list of sites that'll translate the numerals. http://www.wolframalpha.com is a mathematical/scientific search engine that'll give you the answer directly.
A very interesting post. I like your choice for this theme day. Thanks for sharing with us all.
Thanks and you were correct on 1834.
Thanks for all you comments. Once I'd found the pic I was pleased to see it commemorates 1 August too, making it extra appropriate!
