Blog Owners: a new sort of spam

Ignore this if you don't have a blog.

Referrer spam.

Blog owners have access to their blog stats and can see which URLs are referring visitors to their blogs.

Suddenly I'm seeing gothise.com and medianolimit.com referring traffic here.

I suspected something wasn't quite right and rather than clicking on the links I put "gothise.com" and "medianolimit.com" into a Google search to find out what's going on.

I'm using the Firefox web browser with the Web Of Trust (WOT) add-on which tells me which web sites are trustworthy or not. WOT put red circles against both gothise.com and medianolimit.com (ie it's not safe to visit).

Further down in the search results were some postings by other bloggers who've noticed these and found that the links are spammy.

These days you can pick up viruses and other malware just by visiting a site: therefore I will try not to visit gothise.com or medianolimit.com despite the interesting sounding links they're dropping into my stats.

Looking into my stats some more, pu.gg is also a frequent referrer: I've just Googled it and WOT gives it a red circle (don't visit it).

And some visitors are arriving via short URLs eg adf.ly/2tfK1 which I also won't be clicking on.

I hope this helps other bloggers who are looking at their referrer stats.
